Thread count
Thread count is the number of threads — warp plus weft — in one square inch of fabric. It is a consumer-facing figure most associated with bed linen. A genuine 200–400 count covers most quality cotton sheeting; figures far above that usually rely on multi-ply yarns counted as several threads.
For industrial and technical buyers, thread count is a blunt instrument: it says nothing about yarn count, weave or finish. Ends per inch and picks per inch stated separately (e.g. 108 x 56) carry the same information with more precision and no marketing inflation. Treat a headline thread count as a rough guide, not a spec.
