Sizing (in weaving)
Sizing is a temporary coating applied to warp yarn before weaving. A starch or synthetic size binds the fibres and lays down the surface hairs so the warp survives the friction of the loom without breaking. It is washed out again at scouring.
Poorly sized warp breaks on the loom, which stops the machine and leaves faults in the cloth. Sizing quality is one of the differences between a mill that weaves clean, consistent fabric and one that does not. It is done on a sizing machine that runs the warp through a size box and over drying cylinders under tension.

We size warp in our own plant, under our own control, so the sheet runs clean and the greige comes off true before it goes to processing.
