Drill is a specific category within the twill weave family, typically built from heavier, coarser yarns in a tighter 2/1 or 3/1 construction than general apparel twill — producing a stiffer, harder-wearing cloth. The distinction is functional as much as structural: drill is specified when a fabric has to survive repeated industrial laundering, abrasion and mechanical stress in workwear trousers, uniforms and industrial garments, where a lighter twill would show wear far sooner.
Because durability is the point, drill is usually specified and quoted by GSM alongside the actual end-use wash and wear requirement, not by weave description alone.
